32 BK hitting target sideways.

I have been loading 32 and 39 BKs. Both shoot well. I have had 3 out of approximately 500 of the 32s hit the target sideways.

The loads are 32BK untrimmed Winchester brass with 27.6 Benchmark. They are seated to magazine length which is around .200 off the lands.

This happened out of two different Savage rifles with varmint contour barrels.

Don't think it is a big problem just curious.

Thanks
Okey

okey, considering it's happening so infrequently and with two different rifles, I can't imagine it'd be either your barrels or your load. Is it possible something like this might be slipping past your QC?

I'm referring to the blemish in the jacket. The funny color is from the orange surface reflecting off the grey tungsten coating (which I applied). I figure you'd need a much less pronounced flaw than this in such a hi-speed bullet to make it go wobbly.

I find this sort of stuff more commonly in small calibers than with my elephant gun stuff. Plus, there's this persistent rumor that some of the brass and bullet manufacturers' QC folks are stretched thin trying to fill the increased market demand from all the post-BHO election panic buying and hoarding, so things like this might be more common.

Fred, I'd send that one back to Sierra and let them have a look at it.

Never know, you just may find a box of bullets in your mailbox later on...... :chin:

Had the same thing happen with my 26.8 and 27.6 gr benchmark loads. Cleaned the barrel, and seated deeper and seemed to "solve" the problem.

'But I've only shot 100 rounds of these so far. Funny thing, those two charges also produced my tiniest groups...

My story is in the thread, "I'm worried: 32 gr VMax". The recepie I'm loading is on the last page.

Never had a problem with Hornady bullets, but I did have only 1 SBK 39gr. bullet that had the ballistic tip that was upside down!
