Loading Goof-up - DOH!

Post by venison_burger »

Hello all,
Well, I'm still waiting on my scope rings for the new rifle, haven't even shot it yet. In the mean while I just started loading up with my new brass, and just realized that I goofed up the first 25 rounds. After they've all been completely loaded and seated, I noticed that I'd been loading 23.5 grains of BL-C(2) instead of the recomended starting load of 28.5 grains for the 32 grain v-max bullets. Is this going to be a problem being 5 grains light? All of these bullets are simply going to be used in the barrel break-in process, so performance isn't much of a concern. They just need to shoot a bullet down my barrel, and need to expand the new Winchester brass to my 700's chamber.
So, should I shoot them or borrow a bullet puller?
Thanks,
ben

Pull them. Undercharge is worse than an overcharge.

Besides ending up with a dirty chamber, bolt, etc, etc.....you run the risk of higher chamber pressure because of the poor combustion.

Borrow the puller, Or buy one quick b/c no matter how much you prep and plan these things happen every now and again. They are only like $15. I have the green RCBS one and I like it. You need to pull those 25 bullets....you are lucky that there wasn't more. That way you will be satisfied with your reloads when you get em done. Good luck -Dan

In an undercharged load that light you run the serious risk of detonation VS ignition. On ignition the powder burns uniformly. On detonation you get a sudden explosion inside the case & that could lead to much worse problems for you & your range neighbors.
