Nosler 32G Load Data

Post by landtoy80 »

I don't see much load data for 32g Nosler BT bullet.
I see alot of data for the 32 GR V-MAX.
Is there any reason why I can't just use the load data from the V-max for the Nosler BT of same grain bullet?

They may have different geometries, and thus bullet to barrel friction area, so the pressures could be quite a bit different.

That said, the data for the V-Max will give you a good starting point. Just pay close attention, (like always), if you start loading close to max powder charges.

As always, start a little low and work up into it, and you should be fine. I don't load near max anyway, but often use Hornady's data for the Nosler 32s. Haven't blown up anything yet, but again, I rarely load anything anywhere near maximum.

landtoy80: If you need 'real' Nosler-generated data for their 32's, let me know.

i don't know about the 32 gr. bullets, but in my 223 loads i do interchange the exact same load data with the 40 gr. bullets, vmax and nosler ballistic tip. in fact the poi is exactly the same. i do know this from experience. i have been shooting both bullets, side by side, at paper and in the rat fields. but i am loading about 2 full grains below max, with h335 powder. this does not mean it will work with the 204. as others have stated, start at lower charges and work up slow. always be aware of signs of trouble.

Rick, this is what I found from Nosler web page.

204 Ruger
32gr. Ballistic Tip®
Primer: Federal 205M
Ballistic Coefficient: .206
Sectional Density: .110
* Most Accurate Load Tested

Powder: Varget
Charge Weight (in grains) Muzzle Velocity (fps) Load Density
29.0 4043 fps 102%
28.0* 3921 fps 99%
27.0 3811 fps 95%

Powder: IMR4198
Charge Weight (in grains) Muzzle Velocity (fps) Load Density
23.0 4060 fps 85%
22.0 3909 fps 81%
21.0* 3760 fps 78%

Powder: W748
Charge Weight (in grains) Muzzle Velocity (fps) Load Density
29.5 4154 fps 100%
28.5 3998 fps 97%
27.5* 3852 fps 93%

If you have more data, I would like to have it please!!!

Then again maybe I could just start shooting V-Max bullets. I only have 3 or 4 boxes of Nosler left anyways.

I bought the Nosler cause it has a colored tip. I wanted a way to keep the 223 and 204 from getting mixed up. I see that the V-Max has a colored tip too so I may as well buy it instead.

Do the tip color change with different calibers?

all of my vmax bullets have a red tip, and the noslers have an orange tip. compare the 2 side by side. easy to tell the difference.

I was hopping that the 223 would be a different color than the 204.
That way I would know real fast if I had the wrong loaded mag.
The R15 in 204 used AR mags, I also have a 223/5.56 AR15 so I have lost of AR mags.(I don't want to find out what happens when you mix up the 223 and 204 bullets)

Guess I could use my Magpul mags for the 223 only and use the AR mags in the 204.
The 204's don't load well in the Magpul mags. They bind up after just installing a few in the mag.

one thing you might look at, is using only vmax for 1 rifle and only nosler for the other. i would be willing to take 1 of those ar's off your hands for a couple bucks.

toy80: Futuretrades probably has the best idea. Most V-Max's have a red tip, but Nosler uses different colors for each caliber BT bullet.
