Remington 700 VLS
Posted: Sat Oct 18, 2008 1:08 pm
Platform: Bolt Action, Pillar bedded, forearm pressure point sanded flat, sand bags
Bullet: Sierra 39gr BlitzKing, Berger 35gr Moly, Hornady 40gr VMax
Brass: Winchester
Primer: Federal 205M
Powder: Ramshot TAC, 28grains
Cartridge OAL: 2.410"(Sierra39) , 2.360" (Berger35)
Consistent Pressure Signs: Circular, raised, narrow rim encircles the firing pin detent on the primer, no matter which bullet is used.
Velocity: Sierra=3,785 fps Berger=3,815 fps chronographed
Sidenote: Sierra 39gr Blitzkings do well but always ever so slightly larger group (at 50yds for ease of comparison) than Berger. The Sierra group shown was rapid fire in single shot mode. Berger yields most consistent small group size of all 3 bullets. Hornady 40gr FACTORY ammo "claims" 3900fps. My chrono shows 3700fps on them.
See Photos here or the post below by ACLOCO: Sierra, Berger & Hornady Reloads are 100 yd, 5 shot groups, 0.45" max, except did not measure Sierra group. But a dime covers it easily.
