I had a can left over from my PPC days and tried a load with the 39BK and was pleased with the group it produced. I only shot five rounds for a test so more loads to follow. The question I have is why isn't this powder used more often? Before I started loading for my 204 I read all the pages in this section and saw very little mention. I know H4895 is very popular but havn't picked any up thus far.

I don't know why it isn't used more, but it works GREAT in my .204, had some .3 " groups with both the 39 and 32 SBKs.

IMR 4895 is my powder of choice for both 243 and 204 but I'm out and my dealer is out. I've got the best accuracy out of my 204 with this powder. My dealer is also out of H4895. I really don't know what the difference is but they are listed a little different in the burn rate charts. I thought since Hodgdon bought out IMR that both 4895's would be the same. Using H322 now and thats coming along but still want some more IMR4895. Dave

Thanks for the replies. Greystone, I'm curious what bullets/weights your shooting with the IMR. I was having some good results with BL-C until I dumped my powder trickler full of Benchmark into the full can I had a full can of IMR stored and figured I'd try some under the 39 BK and was impressed with the first five test rounds. My rifle hasn't been doing well with the 39's until the IMR.

I was shooting both 34 grain Midway Dogtowns and 35 grain Bergers with 27.6 grains of powder. I was going to go a little hotter with the Bergers but ran out. Thats when I found out my dealer was out also. This was a new rifle and I was still doing some load development. Because of the haz mat fees he doesn't order powder very often. I could tape pennies on my 100 yd target and hit them any time I wanted with the Bergers. Gave them to the neighbor kids. Dave

I use H4895 and IMR4895 in my DPMS AR-15. So far they’ve produced the most accurate reloads outperforming H322, BL-C(2), W748, AA2520, and Varget. I couldn’t get the Hornady 32 gr V-max to shoot under an inch with any of the above powders but switching to the 32 gr. Sierra Blitzking allowed me to shoot sub MOA groups. Using 26.5 gr. of H4895 and CCI BR-4 primers I shot a 5 shot group of .25”@ 100 yds but have not had a chance to shoot that load again to see if I can match or come close to the .25” group. With 27.2 gr. of H4895 I shot a 5 shot group of .82” at 100 yds. Shooting two 5 shot groups using 27.5 gr of IMR4895 I was able to get a .78” and a .84” group at 100 yds. Both the H4895 and IMR4895 reloads averaged around 3750 fps. In each of the above groups, 3 out of 5 shots were within .38” or less of each other. Laying the two IMR4895 targets over each other, 10 shots went into a .88” group with 9 out of 10 shots going into a .81” group. Laying the H4895 load target over the two IMR4895 targets, the 15 shot group was right at 1”. I didn’t see any signs of high pressure and the gun functioned perfectly. I’m going to try and work up to the max. loads and see if I can get the velocity close to 3900 fps without losing any accuracy. I think with a little better concentration at the bench, and ideal shooting conditions, I can get the groups down between .50”-.63” with an occasional dip into the .4’s.
