I own a DPMS Panther in .204 Ruger and for the first 100 rounds of factory loads and 200 rounds of reloads could not get it to group below 1.25" @100 yards with some loads grouping over 2.5". I used 5 different powders in my reloads but only one brand of bullet which was the Hornady V-max. I finally was able to get my hands on some 32 gr. Sierra Blitzkings and loaded up 5 rounds using 25 grains of H322 and CCI BR primers. I loaded 5 more rounds using 26.5 grains H4895. To my surprise the H322 loads shot into a .625" group. What really amazed me was when I shot the H4895 loads. I couldn't hardly believe it but the DPMS put 5 rounds into a .25" group. The shooting conditions where perfect and I was shooting from a very stable benchrest, but still I couldn't believe my eyes. I then put one target over the other and the 10 shot group it made using the two different powders was 7/8", with 9 out of 10 going into a .75" group. I haven't been back to see if I can match these groups, and yes, it might be a fluke, but I think I've found the bullet and powder this gun likes.

Good shooting! My DPMS likes 27 gr. of IMR 4895 and the 32gr. BK, shoots in the .3s most of the time.

Yesterday evening I took the DPMS out and had 3 different 5 round loads to test. Everything was going fine until I dropped my shell holder and cartridges went flying everywhere. The only thing I could do was shoot the rounds and hope for the best. I lost 3 rounds under the shooting platform so I only had 12 rounds to test. I didn’t expect much but ended up with a 12 shot group of 1” @ 100 yards. 11 out of the 12 went in a .75” group with 7 going under .625. I had excellent shooting conditions. My loads are listed below but the thing I have found is that this barrel likes Sierra Blitzkings. It does not like Hornady V-max bullets. The same load with the V-max’s would probably group over 2”.

1. Sierra BK 32 gr.
H4895 27.0 gr.
CCI BR-4 Primer (Same wall thickness as Remington 7 1/2)
Nosler Case

2. Sierra BK 32 gr.
H4895 27.3 gr.
CCI BR-4
Nosler Case

3. Sierra BK 32 gr.
IMR4895 27.0 gr.
CCI BR-4
Nosler Case
