39 gr. sierra and H4895

Post by IOWA204 »

I want to load some 39 sierra blitzking using H4895 powder, sierra data shows 24.1starting and
26.5max. This data seems a little low to me, and I know there are several guys shooting around 27.5 gr. Just wondering if anyone here has any data on this load or if anyone is shooting this combination. I will start low and work up in .2 gr increments it just seems that the sierra data is a little on the low side. Thank you for any help. I want to try the H4895 and Benchmark with this bullet.

I've had good accuracy using H-4895 in both of my Savages with the 39 bk's from 26.5 up to 28 gr. Change in accuracy was very minimal throughout this range. At 28gr I had no issues with pressure or primers and accuracy was still okay. I settled with 27.5 gr as these were my most accurate. I also use the same load with the 40 gr noslers.
With the 40 gr V-max accuracy suffered after 26.5 gr.
Please ensure you move up in SMALL (no more than .2 at a time)increments and carefully watch for pressure signs.

I have been loading 27.0 for several years now with great results. 3670 fps is the average. Not a barn burner, but easy on the barrel and very accurate through my Sako.

My Savage VLP liked 27.7 grains of H4895 and the 39BK's.

Welcome to the forum from still another Iowan. Your'e on the right track. . I'm lucky that I have two 204s and both shoot 39 gr Sierras with the same load of 4895....28 grs. This might be a little stiff in some guns, but both my CZ and my Ruger shoot it with no high pressure signs. I will add that my Ruger also shoots this load with the 40 gr Hornady very well, but the CZ just does not like the 40 gr Vmax at all. Enjoy the 204 and just beware that it is one of THE most addictive varmint cartridges I have shot in 40+ years of shooting.

I use 27.7 in my Ruger bolt gun and 27.5 in my AR's. I get about 3800 FPS in all three. Good stuff.

Hi, I have been shooting the 39gr bk for a couple of years now and using H4895. I been loading 26.7 grs and using BR4 primers.
At 200 yards and no wind I can cover 5 shots with a dime.
I have a 6 X 24 B&L 4000 elite on top.
I have taken a number of coyotes with it out to 500 yards and gophers @ 300 yards all day.
Keep the Son in your eyes.
Bless You

Thats the load I have had the best luck with. 26.7 of H4895 and 39 BK's just play with the seating depth and you should be good to go..
