Howdy
My go to powder is 4895 but I'm almost out and my dealer is out and only orders powder once a year. I just bought a new rifle-a Rem 700 VTR-the one with the triangular barrel with a muzzle brake machined in. The way I see it the muzzle brake effectively reduces the barrel length to 20" so a faster burning powder might be in order. Thinking about IMR4198. Haven't found any load data for it yet-nothing beyond 32 vmax. Anybody have any experience with this combination. Thanks. Dave

H4198 Thread - As you mentioned, not much on the 35 Bergers though.

I don't have any personal experience with this combo, but I can get you close. Let me say that Todd Kindler loves H4198 is small cases with 20cals. On a burn rate comparison chart (relative), H4198 is #58 and H322 is #60. So H4198 is only slightly faster than H322. I would go with the data for H322 and the 35gr Bergers, and simply start very low. The few loads I found with 32's and H4198 are around 23.5gr.

H322 & 35gr Bergers
Min=24.0 3586fps 45,600 PSI
Max=26.3 3828fps 55,400 PSI

Silverfox will be a better help than I, I see he did some testing with H4198 and 32's. Don't take my word for it, but coincidentally when I went from 32gr Sierra's to 35gr Bergers, the 35gr pills like the exact same charge as the the 32's, this was just a fluke and wont be case for all rifles.

Thanks for the reply. I'll be going to my dealer on Monday and will check what he has on the shelf. H322 might be an option also. Thanks. Dave
