I have a Rem XR100 and have recently shot consecutive 100yd 3-shot groups of.196", .205", and .270" with the Federal factory ammo which uses the 39 Sierra BK's. While I primarily hand load and have several other combinations which are capable of similar-size groupings, I am curious as to what powder Federal uses in this loading. I pulled one of these cartridges apart and found a ball powder weighing 27.6 grains. This factory loading is 2.250" O.A.L and is .113" off the lands in my rifle. I wrote Federal and they answered that they do not publish that info. Does anyone have an idea how to find out this info?

Good luck on that venture. Bullet mfg's don't give that info. Not that I know of anyway. If you can figure out the velocity it's shooting it may take a while but you can start researching the different ball powders and find one that is close to what you have found so far.

They don't use canister powders like we buy, they buy stuff by the truckload and blend it to meet the specs they want. All companies do that.
