Hello new member from London United Kingdom

Post by londonhunter »

:D  Hello folks I am from London England

I have just collected a new Cooper 204 Ruger Varminter
I have also shot 40 rounds of mixed 20 roudns of Remington and 20 roudns of honardy 32 grain both factory ammunition just to lap the barrels
I am getting about 1 inch at the moment at 100 yards from a rest some grounps tighter and some groups looser - I am not too bother since this is lapping in..........
I have a wilson seater and Wilson neck dies with 4895 on stanby
and a fresh box of Hornady 32 grain V-MAx heads

Will you experts over the pond save me a few trips to Bisley and help me out with the following details

What Bush size for Hornady 32g vmax and Norma cases
Which powder approaches the factory quoted velocity - i.e. their secret powder
What Powder weight range are you guys using from previous question?

Thanks in advance

I have read so much about this caliber I cannot wait to start so please keep yoru experiences coming  [/b]

Welcome to the forum londonhunter.

As for your question about powders to reach factory load speeds give our "Favorite Loads" section a look. Please remember each rifle is different so ALWAYS work up your loads from a safe (published) starting point. To help you wade through the posts a couple of us have compiled the "Favorite Loads" forum (MinotBob did most of the hard work).

Please keep in mind with this small case/caliber a couple tenths of a grain of powder can be the difference between success and disaster at/near the upper load limit!

Hi londonhunter,i was just wondering what you are planning on using your 204 for. Will it be used for fox shooting or targets?I`m guessing that it`s fox shooting,if you are planning mega fast loads.
To be honest i wouldn`t worry too much about velocity if your pest shooting as i have a 32g V-MAX load running at 3900fps,and i`ve taken rabbits and foxes out to 370yds with it.Just my opinion, but i would always go for accuracy over velocity.
Regards,Jamie. :)
I only have to be lucky once,
the fox has to be lucky every time!

I am planning to use it mainly for fox and rabbits in the United Kingdom within 100 miles from the centre of London

I am a little it disappointed with the fact that nobody is approaching factory quoted Hornady velocity since that was the main attraction

I know it might not make any difference to the target 3900 or 4200 fps

I am going to try 4895 with 32 max with my cooper thanks

If I can get 0.25 MOA at 100 yards I will be over the moon...........

Have you not read your other post I responded to? A few folks have reached and passed the factory velocity. Most folks that have done so will not share their load data because of pressure concerns. If you want to reach factory velocities try H322 and RL-10x.

Your Cooper should easily shoot .25 @ 100, it just might not be the fastest load that shoots it.

WW is correct. We don't know your level of reloading experience & some of these loads are really jacked up. I think I speak for everybody here when I say WE as a group of 204 enthusiasts don't want to see anybody get hurt. Some of these loads were approaching 4450fps if I remember correctly & that is just about insane velocity. Hope you don't take any of this in the wrong way. We just don't want to read about anybody getting hurt.

And Welcome to the Forum in case I forgot to do so. It's been a busy last month or so for me.
