35 Bergers:Whats your favorite powder?
35 Bergers:Whats your favorite powder?
I tried the Bergers when my CZ was brand new and didnt have any luck with them. Now that my rifle seems to be broken in, I am going to try them again. So far I have worked up 2 loads one with Varget and one with BLC 2. I started with the minimum charge and worked up to max in 2/10 grain increments. Hopefully I will get to try them tommorrow. I still have Benchmark to try. I was wondering what the members favorite powders were for the 35 Bergers?

I have had good luck with 25.5 grains Benchmark. Other people have had good luck with H4895 and R-10x.

One of my rifles likes BL-C(2) and the other prefers H4895 with the 35 Bergers.

Re: 35 Bergers:Whats your favorite powder?
H4895 is my powder of choice with the 35 gr. FBHP Bergers. A couple of other powders that were very promising were H322 and Benchmark. I tried BL-C2 and it was mediocre in my Savage 12VLP and besides that, it IS NOT one of the Hodgdon Extreme powders and maybe more sensitive to extreme temperature changes than H4895, H322 or Benchmark.

Re: 35 Bergers:Whats your favorite powder?
just finish my load work yesterday heres whats working best in my cz varminter.
once fired hornay brass
cci 450 primer
27.8 grains h4895 powder
brass length of 1.840
col length of 2.250
35 grain berger
not as accurate as the v-max but silver fox has said this to be a great yote bullet and shooting less then an inch at 100 yrs spells dead dog.
silver fox has done more work with the 204 then most and I for one take his advise to heart.
cracker
p.s. thanks for all the great info Silver fox

Re: 35 Bergers:Whats your favorite powder?
cracker--You are welcome for the information I was able to provide. If you miss your intended target with those 35 gr. Berger loads, PLEASE DO NOT BLAME ME!!! If I was pulling the trigger, then I'd take the blame
Another bit of advice I would give you is to get out to the range and shoot not just at 100 yards, but at 150, 200, 250, and 300 yards. Become familiar with where those bullets hit at those distances. At 300 yards (if your muzzle velocity is 3,884 fps and that was my velocity with 28.0 gr. of H4895) and your zero set for 1.0" hight at 100 yards, the bullet drop with the 35 gr. Bergers is about 4.7 inches. Wind deflection is what will really get you with the 35 gr. Bergers. A wind speed of 10 mph at a 90º angle to your bullet flight will give you 4.7" of wind deflection at 200 yards, 7.7" at 250 yards and 11.5" of wind deflection at 300 yards.
Good luck and keep us informed on how those bullets work for you this coming fur season.
