I'd like to get a gun rest. From what I've read, it would be more useful than a bipod in determining my rifle's abilities.
This year I bought a flint cover from Protektor. Nice leather, and looking at their other products has me considering their rest and bags:

Anyone using their stuff? Any other recommendations?

homefront: My crew and I have been using Protektor rear bags for quite a while now with no complaints. My old one started life around 1989, still good, but just replaced it two years ago with a new one a bit taller. Good stuff for sure, and they really last.



For a front rest, I've gone through four, and settled on the Sinclair All-Purpose Rest. Priced in the upper range, but the last one you'll ever buy. It fits thin sporter forends, all the way up to full BR rigs with their wide 3+" beavertail forends, very adjustable. Cast iron base, powder coated, all fittings are stainless steel. Can't say enough good about it, all my varmint shooting buddies feel the same way about theirs.



I use one of my Harris bipods for walkabout varmint shooting, but for shooting from the bench, you just can't beat a proper front rest to fully realize the accuracy potential of your rifle. There's some good ones out there, this is what has worked the best for us after alot of years dinking around with some of the others.

Thanks for your reply. I stared at your photo, wracking my brain wondering where I'd seen that picture... it was at Saubier!
That is a terrific looking rest. I'm afraid it's a bit pricey for me right now, so I'm looking at less expensive rests. Should my involvement in this hobby grow (something tells me it will!), I'll keep the Sinclair in mind. I may even make my own .
Being a carpenter sometimes has its advantages!

I use the Protektor rear bags. I like a little felt applied on my bags so the rifle will recoil freely. I use a Caldwell Rock BR model front rest. My next front rest will be a Farley with joy stick for target shooting. Protektor makes good bags.

I've only been at this forum a very short while, and reading through the various posts leaves me with the impression that this is a dedicated bunch, who are very willing to share. I'm glad I found it!

You'll rest well knowing that the rest he's sending you is very experienced. Skippy has learned to shake in fear when he sees it being deployed on the bench!

I like the Protektor bags also. As a matter of fact, this just came in the mail yesterday. I also have the $29 one and have NO complaints. Just thought I needed a new one .
