BTW, I usually load only load a couple cartridges short in the magazine because it can wear out the magazine spring, at least that is what my brother, who is in the Marines, said.

Verm2: Good advice from your brother bud, but considering how many rounds you or I would shoot through our AR's, that is not really an issue compared to an active Marine, especially if deployed.

Load a full mag for yotes with confidence. If you need 'em, you've got 'em. A civilian would be hard pressed to ever wear out a mag spring in an AR used for varmints or paper. I had some 'Nam era 30 round mags that I used for over 15 years with both select fire and semi-auto, always filled them up, and never wore out a mag spring.

When returning home, store the mags empty, and the springs will last your lifetime.
