Norma brass Range report

Great consistancy Hawkeye .I'll bet your runout is nil it would be interesting to know also the neck wall thickness.It must be the Redding Comp. dies and Norma brass now you got me thinking

Did you misplace a digit? Neck thickness of .0002 isn't possible, is it? By the way, that's some serious groups at 300 yards. Whatever you're doing, you're doing it right. Nice going. You're going to give me a run for the money with a factory rifle. Your bench technique must be very good. Do you dope the wind or just wait for the conditions to settle down, like me?

Don't know yet..letting the scale "burn in" for 48 hours or so.

Have been cleaning the garage...it is UGHHHLLY! My reloading bench & cleaning bench is in there...along with a radial arm saw, table saw, and, and, and.....oh...a complete engine (in pieces) for my 1965 Olds 442.

Been busy since the 1st of the year...seems busier than normal...so...little things get set here and there for "later"...and later never came. So....guess who gets to clean up? ....yep...me..the person that made the mess.

Promised myself when this scale arrived, I would do a good deeeeep clean. About halfway done.

Garage is not the bad....but it is bad to me...so that is what counts.

He didn't say that the neck walls were .0002" thick, he said "Wall thickness is still within .0002 after two firings." That means that the neck walls DO NOT vary more than .0002" in thickness after firing them twice. It DOES NOT mean that the neck walls are .0002" thick.

Maybe I made that as clear as mud

Great shooting Mike, Your skills s for reloading and shooting are starting to shine through now. ( nice going ) And if you ever get a picture of Rick shooting a savage. I would almost pay to see that on the forum here.

Neck walls measure .011-.0112. Silverfox is correct. I forgot not everybody has been a Machinist for 25 years like me

My bench technique is kinda rough.I hold the gun with two hands

As far as the wind goes,I shoot between gusts. My range is protected from cross winds except for opening in the trees between 200-250.With the addition of the Norma brass I believe I now have the "total package".

Under loading conditions mine is on the money almost every time.Once in a while it floats .02. just rezero and have at it! 65 Olds 442 SWEEEET.What engine, a 400ci ?. Original numbers matching??

Went to the range today to Crony my favorite loads for the LRPV. It was very windy but I managed to get a couple of nice groups in early. The left target was shot with 25.3 10X,39gr Sierra BK,CCI BR4,OAL 2.260. 3 of 10 missed the paper. Notice the point of impact difference compared to the 35 Bergers on the right. Both are 300 yard targets. 35gr Berger load is 26.6 Benchmark. Now lets get to the Crono stuff. Here are the velocities of the 39 Sierra 25.3 10X loads:

acloco, enough about groups and prairie dogs. I want pictures of the 442. I've owned 5 over the years and a 65 was my first car out of high school. I'd trade all my Savages for a good builder.

HotShot - meet me in Shelby...on Saturday, Sunday or the rest of next week.

Was found in the proverbial "farmer's yard" south of Havre. Last licensed in 1968 and has just over 21K miles. Needs a complete interior. NO rust. Dented front fender and bumper.

One of few produced...it is a "F85 Club Coupe" with 442 option.

Engine was ran hard or low on oil - ruined a connecting rod and scuffed one cylinder. I have another nodular crank and a set of rods (also 1965). But, you have a choice - sleeve this block or bore to 425 cube size - uses the same block as the 425. The cylinders are EASILY 3/8-7/16" inch thick - no bull.

Cam looks new - still has the gray/black coating. Heads are in perfect condition.

PS - car is worth 6-8K, even in the condition it is in (not bad, really).

Heads are worth a grand. Block/crank/Rods - worth close to a grand. 442 emblem on the dash is worth a grand.

Reallistically, to finish the car..figure:

3-5K for paint (medium metallic blue with white top)
$1300 for interior
2K for engine/tires/etc...

Last one that was in a GOOD restored condition, that I saw....went for 30K plus.

Impressive shooting.

I've just been convinced to enter a 300 yd Fly comp, and I have no 204 at the moment!

But glad to hear the Norma brass is worth it. Just finishing uniforming the pockets on some 22/250 before necking up for my 6/250 and will then get on to the 200 204 cases in anticipation of the new 204s arriving!!!
