WENT TO THE RANGE TODAY TO TRY OUT THE VARMINT POWDER FROM ALLIANT IT SHOOTS RATHER WELL I WAS SHOOTING HORNADY BRASS WITCH I AM NOT A FAN OF. HOW EVER THATS ALL I HAD TO LOAD AT THE TIME 39 BK A.O.L AT 2.31 AND REM 7 1/2 PRIMERS . SAVAGE ACTION MCGOWAN BARREL 1/11 TWIST 24IN BARREL . 5 SHOT AT 100YDS. 27.1GR .436 WITH 1 FLYER MAKING IT .907
27.2GR .498 WITH 1 FLYER MAKING IT 1.033
27.3 .619
27.4 .586 WITH 1 FLYER MAKING IT 1.162
THESE WHERE THE BEST GROUPS.
KEEP IN MIND THIS WAS HORNADY BRASS JUST NECK SIZED AND THE BULLETS WHERE NOT TRUED.

Went back to range today with different seating depth using 27.1 and 27.6 and my groups got wider!!!! My bolt was sticky so I measured my brass witch is nosler with about 6 firings I found different lengths so I need to trim. And I also ordered a fosrster neck bump die with bushings I hope this will fix the problem. I have been using rcbs dies . Any advice in tightning the groups up would be helpful ?

Don't you hate that one f'ing flyer that ruins another wise decent 5 shot group? I wish I could find a solution.

Yes it seems I spend more time trying to fix the flyer than trying to go hunting.

Also groups should get smaller i was shooting off of a folding plastic picnic table so I had more movement then I would from a sturdy bench.

I was very pleased with my rifles groups with the Forster "Bump" bushing die. I also suggest that you seat with the Wilson arbor seater. I also have a Wilson size die but the Forster bump die is more accurate in my chamber. My disappointment with the Wilson seater may be because of the short neck on the .204 Ruger. I have a .20 PPC under development that may answer that question.
