What's the next powder I should get?

Post by tpcollins »

I've tried various powders trying to push 39gr bullets (SBK and Speer) and I'm comming to the conclusion that my Tikka doesn't like 39 grainers. I picked up a box of 32 gr SBK and was wondering if I should try another powder?

I have Varget, H322, H4895, 8208 XBR and I was thinking on getting either some Benchmark, CFE 223, or RE-10X - I was leaning towards the Benchmark. A nudge in one direction would be nice . . .

RL10X is my "go to" powder with the 39gr SBK......25.5gr over BR4 primers, Norma Brass....3850fps....

Use caution...work up loads in your own rifle...this works for mine, maybe not for yours...

Tried Benchmark, 10X and H4895 in my CZ .204 Varmint. Benchmark is my very favorite. By far best groups with the 39Bk's

Ramshot Xterminator has performed well for me in the 204, you might give some of that a try if you have a chance. I am able to get over 4000 fps with 32 grain bullets and just under 3,800 fps with 39 sbk's.

For 39gr BKs Reloder 10X was my go to powder but I'm getting very good results with CFE223.

Benchmark for me. I'm loading .204 (32, 39 and 40gn), .223 (55gn), and 6.5 grendel (123gn) and can expect good groups with all of these, which really surprises me. 0.5" without trying too hard. Meters really well too.

I was happily surprised get that kind of accuracy out of the Grendel with that weight bullet/powder, but that is a "good" barrel by JP enterprises. I have always shot "stock" (poor-man's) rifles.

Bow shot........I have always shot "stock" (poor-man's) rifles.
Some are suprised with a little TLC how well some stock rifles realy shoot. I have a factory Ruger #1 in 300 win mag. That all I did was remove the forend to soften up the ejector spring allen screw. Nothing done to the trigger. She shoot 5 shoots in 1/2" at 200 yards with her pet load.

Ive had good luck with 39 smk and both H4895 ( 26 gr - 27.5) best groups 26.5
and xbr 8028. ( 26gr-27.2) best group 26.3
The gun is the Tikka Varmint
Nosler Brass cci magnum ( 250)primer .OAL 2.28
this was from a ladder, I will load up and head back to range to see if I can get the groups to repeat multiple times.

tpcollins,
I've had very good luck with BLC(2) in my Rem. 700, VLS. With the 32gr. Nosler Varmageddon I shot a .169 group. Every gun is different but, you might give it a try. Good luck.
