Finally some success with 40 gr VMaxs!

Not quite as good as the 39 SBK but I think they're getting closer. Five shot groups @ 100 yds, crosswind gusting to 12 mph, bipod & rear bag, prone. 27.4 and 27.5 grains of IMR4895, Rem 7 1/2, Win brass, 2.28" COAL. Not sure which one to go with. 27.4 is kind of spread out but 27.5 has some stringing (low-left was me). Might have to load 10 more of each and try it again on a calm day.

Good stuff fellas, I have some vmax to try (40) but I am getting on so well with the 39sbk's I feel hard even thinking on trying anything else !

Where do you get that target from guys I can remember ?

Dan, POA was the same. I agree with you, for a .1 grain change. I was taking turns shooting the .204, my .300 win mag for my Alaska trip, and a 10/22 that I am customzing. Lot's of moving around and significant caliber changes. The wind may have been less for the last group as well. And my technique probably could use a lot of refinement.

247: If I hadn't purchased 500 of the Vmaxs on sale, all I'd shoot would be the 39 SBK (minute-of-golf ball at 200 yards!). The target is from Practical Riflery forum, the OCW method. There's a .pdf there. The target I posted has the center diamond printed in orange. I printed a bunch of them with the orange removed and color it in with a flourescent yellow highlighter. Man do those stick out in sunlight, especially early and late. Print them on "cover stock" and they're fantastic for load development.

Wind could do it - agreed.
Whenever I have testing to do, I try to stick with part of the OCW technique - firing one of each different variation in a round robin - reduce technique and weather variables. But this might be expanding MY groups a little?
might have to review my test method again and fine tune the routine.
