rl15 powder

Post by zx10mike »

hi guys, my pet load is 27.2 rl15 shoots great.however i just started a new tub and i had to adjust my powder charger so less powder gave me 27.2 noticable when you look down the neck.i have also lost about 200 fps.groups seemed to have opened slightly.in order to get things back on track i would have to go to about 28 grains well over stated max.

i tried 27.4 it gave 3317
then27.6 it gave 3419
then27.8 gave 3374
i do tend to get 100 fps either way.i stoped at that and thought seek advice. there was no preasure sighns.any thoughts

That's happen to me when I changed LOTS. I just go back out and adjust the load if required. It can be a "pain" but it's not limited to just RL-15, other powders can do it too.

Mike -

Another thought...are you shooting at colder temps, now? Makes a big difference with temp sensitive powders like Rl.

Good point, Mike. Sorry I over looked that part.

Sounds like the powder mix is considerably different from your original lot. You might give the mfg. a call and ask if that is unusual.
