C.O.L. for the CZ 527 Varmint .204

Post by Shamu25 »

Need some input on COL for my CZ. I have the 527 Varmint. It seems to shoot most accurately the BK 39gr with 25.7gr Benchmark. I am now going to test some different seating depths to see where that takes me. I note that guys seat from 2.25 to 2.35 depending on their gun. Has anyone done any testing with the CZ's to find out what they like? I am getting about 1/2" groups at 2.31.

i was getting similar results from my 527 varmint with a 2.30 Col. In my opinion that is a pretty standard level of accuracy for the rifle. the only time i was able to get my rifle to shoot better groups was using my 34 grain CRT bullets. My groups were approximately .401 with that bullet on top of xterminator powder. Some people may disagree with me but i would say that's extremely good for a factory chambered rifle.

Thanks for the reply wirelessguy. I am totally satisfied with my CZ. I am certain that it shoots better than me. The 2.3 COL does seem right on. I will post my results of my trials with 2.26, 2.29 and 2.31 in about a week. Have a new scope on order. Weaver Grand Slam 6-20x40 with varminter reticle. I am thinking that better glass will help my aging eyes. Presently have a Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5-20x50. It is quite good for a $100 scope but a little shadowy at times.

I think you really need to get a Comparator from Hornady and make your measurements off of the Ogive, rather than the bullet tip...

Using the Comparator to measure the chamber length, my CZ 527 Varmint has a chamber length of 2.070".... My most accurate loads, using a 39gr SBK bullet with 26.3gr of Win-748 powder and magnum primers, measures at 1.899" to the ogive....leaving a jump to the lands of 0.171".....If I measure to the bullet tip, the OaL is 2.239", but that isn't really accurate if the ballistic tip isn't consistent...

The target below is from a fairly recent range session when I was adjusting my Leupold scope with the Varmint Hunter reticle for a 300 yard zero....At 100 yards, my trajectory is 2.7" high and my Point of Aim was at the bottom of the diamond... The "SA" notes were for scope adjustments for the ten round session...
