What other powders for 32 VT and 39 BK?

Post by tpcollins »

For loading the Nosler 32 VT and the 39 Sierra BK, I have Varget left over from loading .243 plus I picked up some H322 as well. I'll probably stay with these two bullets but was wondering if I picked up another powder, is there one that works for both bullets? I was wanting to try some RL-10X but the IMR-4198 was listed on Hodgden's site for both bullets? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I just recently picked up a .204 Savage and haven't reloaded for it yet. I bought some 39gr. BK bullets and plan to try Varget, H322 and BL-C2 all of which I already have on hand. I also thought I'd like to give IMR 8208 XBR a try. It looked like it might be a good choice.

i have been using Ramshot Xterminator for both, it gives good velocity and burns extremely clean.

I mainly use 8208 in multiple bullet weights. 34gr., 35gr., 45gr., but the 39gr. BK was not as good as I thought they should be. H4895 resolved that issue.
H4895 and 8208 are my favorites for the 204.

I use H4895 for my 204s with great accuracy. I did pick up some IMR 8208, have some loaded but have not had the weather to shoot the test loads yet. H4895 is a temperature in-sensitive powder as well.

H4895 has given me the best speed with accuracy so far. Benchmark was very accurate but lacked the speed of H4895. I've been playing with 8208 XBR but have not been able to match the speed and accuracy of H4895 in my gun yet.

Lots of good powders for 204. For me 8208 works very well for 32-35g bullets and H4895 for 39 and 40g.

For my Savage 12 VLP, Benchmark does great for me for 32gr VMax, 32gr SBK, 39gr SBK and 40gr VMax

I started with IMR 4064, and was doing great with that too, but ran out and local supplies were dry...
