Flash Hole Reaming tool?

Post by FireBallGuy »

Hey guys, getting ready to place an order with sinclairs and this tools was on the list. Is the a required element? I realize that all flash holes will then be uniform and the same but is it worth the trouble? I think the standard dimension, expect for PPC and BR cases is .080"? ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks all.

I clean out the flash hole on all my new brass, as well as uniform the depth of the primer pocket. You only have to do this once. I have seen part of the brass hanging on one side of the hole, still attached. This will ensure a more uniform spark into the powder, for better shot to shot consistency. It all depends on how accurate you want your shots. It probably will not make a difference for big game hunting. Shooting for competition or shooting little critters way out there, I would do this.

Thanks sidewinder. I wish to take my case prep to the next level, as the switch from normal to TOP SHELF dies has also helped the gun greatly. Was I correct about the diameter of the flash hole?

Yo, FBG!

I saw an improvement in accuracy when I tidied up the flasholes on my Hornady brass (which I no longer use), but looking back the accuracy gain may have been due to other variables. I consider it a variable that I don't want to be haunted by when things go to the pooper, so I clean 'em up for conscience's sake, if you know what I mean.

I do, the one I got from sinclairs is BUNK! Appears the reamer is undersized ( I measured it ) and just going to send it back to them. I have all the other tools though, VLD chamfer tool, flash hole de-burring tool, good to go! By the way, we SMOKED a bunch of yotes last weekend! Closest was about 200 yards on the run )head shot) and the longest was 525 yards also a head shot! Was a great weekend!

Howdy der FireBallGuy. I think the .204 Ruger’s flash hole is another of the smaller ones at .060”. Factory Hornady brass by eyeballing looks to be closer to .060 than .080 to me. :duh:
