Coated bullet shooters: Question :?:

Post by Paul »

I had to pull a coated bullet from a round today. To my supprise about 99% of coating was gone from the bullet wall; scraped off from the case neck. How do you minimize the scraping off of the coating?

If you haven't already - give all of your brass a light inside chamfer. It will help eliminate the hard edge scraping off the coating.

Our secret is out. We usually just ignore that fact and pretend the coating is doing great things.

By using a proper inside chamfer cutter, no coating will be removed from bullets. I started using the Holland 14 degree spiral carbide cutter, and it made a noticable difference at the target, and pulled coated bullets retain all their coating.

The 45 degree cutters most of us use just do not cut it. The Holland and like cutters are designed for VLD bullets. The new gentle angle chamfer really lets the bullets slide into the case neck, and you can feel the difference at the press handle while seating bullets.
