Look what followed us home

Post by skipper »

My wife and I went out for a nice twilight ride on the Harley last night. We like to cruise down the country roads where we've never been before and check out the scenery. Towards the end of our ride I took a shortcut home and pointed to what I thought was a cat in the road. My wife said she thought it was a dog. As we approached, we saw it was about a three month old puppy. It scurried off the road and into the tall grass. My wife has a soft spot for lost dogs so we turned around to see if we could get a closer look. I could see its head as we got closer but the cycle scared it into a clump of tall grass. My wife was calling it but it wouldn't come out. It suddenly dawned on me that the bike might be scaring it so I killed the engine. As soon as it got quiet the dog popped its head out and then right back in. We called some more and it popped its head back out. To our surprise, another pup popped its head out also.

There was no way we were leaving without the dogs. It was obvious someone had dropped them off in the middle of nowhere. Some man stopped his truck and helped us load the two dogs and ourselves onto the bike. We had about five miles to ride and I was sure the dogs wouldn't sit still for the ride. I was wrong. Both dogs sat right where we put them the whole way home. Anyone interested in a cute puppy? One male and one female. I already have two dogs.

How in the world does someone leave cute pups like that on the road side. HEARTLESS SOB. I'll bet Buddy would like one of them for a playmate. Any idea what they might be. Kinda looks like a Lab Shepherd mix.

No idea. I was thinking they might have a little golden retriever or even collie in them. The neighbors have a golden retriever pup that looks a lot like these puppies.

We've had people calling about them all day. The whole family has gotten attached to them already. What's a guy to do?????

One time about 20 years ago I was going into work early in the morning and I came across a bloody mess in the road and I saw something run into the ditch. I stopped. There was a cardboard box sitting along the road. Someone had dumped off a whole litter of pups and they were all splattered on the hi way. One survived but was terribly frightened. I was a construction supervisor at the time and the first day it went to work with me. It ended up with my companies estimator and became one of the best dogs he has ever had. I also ride Harleys and one time when going into a little party spot a scrawny little pup went into the ditch in front of me. I stopped and it came right out. He road on my tank all the way home-put a few scratches in the clear coat but that buffed out. This young pup was almost starved to death. After a trip to the vet for the basics and food and shelter it went to a friend of mine. This kind of stuff really pisses me off! I'm a dog lover and will always have one of my own. I have Bud now and will give him his every day. I honestly feel that most dog owners should not have a dog. Just rantin. Dave

We named them Gracie and Lucky. Luck we came along, for sure. We've been outside playing with them all evening. Our other dogs Snickers and Duchess have taken to them just fine. Monday we are going to take them to the vet to see if they have a chip. I doubt someone would go through the trouble to have a chip implanted and then abandon them but the Lost Pet center wants us to check.

I don't know if I can get rid of them now. If my neighbor wants one I may keep the other.

You KNOW you're gonna keep 'em, how could you give away such cute little critters? :D They are seriously cute, and appear to be happy and friendly, and no doubt the kids have grown attached already. No way can they go away now................... Besides, you don't divide up your puppy love, you multiply it..... There appears to be a lotta love in those two...

We ended up letting one of the pups go with a family right here in our neighborhood. The wife showed up and took Gracie to Lake Conroe for the couples week long vacation. Their kids are grown and gone. Gracie spent the whole weekend in her husband's lap. They even dropped by on their way back to let us have a look at her. Lucky is staying with us. He has become a part of the family and the other dogs have totally accepted him.

Lucky at about 2 weeks. His favorite spot under the dinner table.
