Hi-I'm fairly new here but have been lurking for awhile. I'm getting ready to reload for the 204-if my dies ever show up-and have on hand IMR4895 and plan on using it. I know the H and IMR4895's are similar-no I don't plan on mixing the two-but all I see on this site is references to H4895. Is there any reson to beleive that H4895 is superior to IMR4895? I've had excellent luck with IMR in a 243. Also I'll be laoding the Midsouth 34 grainers. Probably by starting out by using a light 35 grain Berger load and work from there. Correct? Thanks.

I use Hodgdon's for personal reasons, I got to meet Bruce Hodgdon once, and he treated poor young me like I was his only customer, and bought millions of dollars worth at a time. Of course, that's just GOOD business practice, but he lived it really well. Even so, it's stuck with me since that day in 1987, and I have returned the favor pretty well, I think  I DO use other powders now and then, but in any case, I often get best results with one of the Hodgdon products. Nothing against IMR, though, or any of the others, I just liked the way they treat their customers.

IMR is some good powder, and I think it will do just fine.

I think another reason, a lot of people believe the "Extreme" hype. We did a lot of testing two summers ago with Extreme powders, mostly Varget pushing 55 grain VMax's from .223's. I'm likely to get tarred and feathered for this, but we found almost every single powder/load tested on the eastern plains of Colorado, clocked 75 to 125 fps faster in the 95° heat, than they did in mid April when temps were in the thirtys here.

Now I'm not knocking Hodgdon at all. I use quite a bit of it, along with many others. And I'm of the believe, most powder makers pretty much use the same ingredients, Extreme or not. Most all react the same in the heat. But yes, there are also a few powders that do seem to be more temperature sensitive than others.
