Postal Shoot Excuses

I shot yesterday, and have had a chance to think about it.
Top reasons why my groups were bigger than expected:
1.) Too windy
2.) Barrel got hot
3.) Barrel got dirty
4.) Different target than I'm used to
5.) Forgot to clean primer pockets
6.) Throat erosion since last time I really shot for group size
7.) The idiot at the next bench shooting a BOSS magnum
8.) The Twins were losing 8-1 to Kansas City
9.) Gophers lost to Bowling Green, for crying out loud
and the real reason,
10.) I shot poorly!!!
But it was fun and I got to shoot.
Thanks again, Kevin, for heading this thing up. Don't knock yourself out measuring my groups.
Joe

I know what you mean, ANYONE losing to Kansas City is in a world of hurt.
Even a misplaced Missourian like me recognizes that. I don't know what to make of the Royals this year, they're out of their customary last place, but rapidly gaining ground on regaining that status, losing to them must REALLY stink
.

I just got back to town and I have to get my self to the range to see if I can even still shoot. I know my groups will be great.
If they are not, can I use one of those excuses above?

I'll shoot mine when the wind dies down.............................we are getting alot of smoke from the Susanville fire. Doesn't smoke deflect bullets???

Glenn,
Yeah, Kansas City got us 2 of 3. That really stinks. Then Cleveland came to town and swept my lads three straight. Just like me and the Postal Shoot, the Twins will have to wait till next year.
Smoke deflecting bullets? Wish I had thought of that.
Best wishes to those who have yet to shoot. Wait for a calm day if you can.

My excuse.
I cleaned the barrel. What was I thinking
I switched to Benchmark a few weeks ago. Hadn't touched the tube since. Everything was goin pretty good. Then I got this bright idea to clean the barrel right before shooting my Postal targets. Target two really shows a POI shift. Over 100rds through the barrel without cleaning and then target two is the largest group I ever shot using BM. It was just thinking about settling down by the time I got to #3.
I think I smelled smoke too.
Oh Well enough whining
Congratulations in advance to the winner. I'm pretty certain the competition on this forum shoot will be the toughest out there.
I'm going downstairs now to bend that cleaning rod in half

I shot yesterday.
I, too, cleaned my rifle.
I fired about 120 rounds down the tube since I bought her. I had ONLY cleaned it with a Boresnake. I bought a nice Dewey coated .20 cal rod, so I proceeded to run about 50 patches with Butch's Bore Shine down the pipe until they came out completely white.
She had been shooting easy .25's all day long (with Factory ammo). The best shots were groups #3 & #4 while I was fouling the barrel. Unfortunately, they were not shot at a Match Target.
After 40 rounds, she did not tighten up. So I shot for score.
I proceeded to stop by Sportsmans Warehouse on the way home and picked up some Berger 40 grainers, a neck sizing die and a pound of BL-C(2). As soon as my Titanium cutter and .20 cal pilot show up for my Redding case trimmer, I'm rolling my own.
No time to develop. Match prepped Hornady Brass, CCI BR-4 primers, 30 grains of BL-C(2) and an OAL of 2.350".
This is out of my XR-100...........................we'll see what happens.
Waldo - I'm JUST going to make the deadline..................but they will be on thier way!

Did you shoot any fouling shots after cleaning your bore? I know my rifle likes at least 5 shots through it before its completely settled down.
14.) My dog ate my target!

Just got back from the range-I fired my postal target. Original plan was to put on my big scope and back down the powder charge a little in 15 perfectly prepped cases, then check runout and lenght for the "15". Never got around to that plan. I just fired 15 prairie dog loads using my 14X scope. I pulled a couple just a little bit and then I jerked the last shot clear out of the group on target 3. The only excuse I can come up with is my brand new hat must be too tight.
