I have an App (free) on my phone called subMOA that works pretty good for getting your group size. My target isn't anywhere's near that good-great shootin! Randy.

I sent a pic of the measurements to bill k. Center to center it is roughly .230-.235 and outside edge to outside edge is approximately .370-.375. Idk how group size is determined, i just measured the distance between the 2 holes that were farthest apart from each other. That load was 27.9gr of h4895 with weight-sorted nickel-plated federal brass and 32gr sierra at c.o.a.l of 2.325 it was brass that was fired 3-4 times and only ever neck sized with lee collet dies. i also used a hornady seating die with the micro-just stem. That combo has made me very proud.

Here are the ones sent from 218bee. Tried to enter them upright, but as you see, I failed. Darn good group. Bill K

When I first bought this rifle I was highly disappointed with it. I tried all kinds of factory ammo and could at the very best shoot 1"-1.5" groups, and with vmax bullets my targets looked like i was patterning a shotgun... So it sat in the cabinet for a couple months until i got a reloading bench set up and going, if it wasn't for me giving it a second chance (this time with handloads and ladder tests) i would have tried to sell it, even if i would have had to take a slight loss. Now it is by far my most favorite and most accurate rifle that i own. But to this day it just tosses factory ammo all over the place, and i can't stand shooting a gun that doesn't group well, so i am glad that i started handloading...

Plenty of rifles start out that way, but with the adjustments to bedding, triggers and a re-do on crown, if needed usually a very accurate load or two can be worked up, with just some effort and playing with components i.e. bullets, powder, primers, seating depth. Glad you found some and now you know why so many do like the 204R, plus some other 20 calibers. Bill K :)

You did mention one more thing that i forgot to in my last post. And that is trigger, before I even fiddled with it, this gun had the nicest trigger of any of my guns and i lightened it up just a tad more. Now it is borderline dangerous for me to even let anyone else shoot it. It is a cz 527 and they have a set trigger that is just sweet straight from the factory, but now it is impossible to pull this gun off target lol. I left a friend shoot it and his first shot that he took with the trigger set, went off before he was ready for it, so he decided that he didnt want to set the trigger anymore lol

Nice shooting 204Ever, you took up the same challenge I did after last years competition, "Next year will be better". I am amazed at the accuracy of the 204 Ruger cartridge. I look at the groups shot with inexpensive rifles and can only conclude that it is a inherently accurate cartridge favored by inherently accurate riflemen. As 218 Bee points out once you find a load your rifle likes it is a sight to see. My 204 is the most accurate center fire I own.

Thank you for the words of encouragement. Last year's shoot got me 8th place with Hornady 32 gr. Z-max. Had ordered the Barnes 26 VG but didn't come in time to work up a load. Congrats on your shoot. Love the 204 and so do the Utes (coyotes ) until impact. Have a wonderful day.

Had a thought on how to raise the ante, so too speak on this contest. Seems like many of us have some pretty darn good rifles and loads and are all shooting some very nice groups.
So how about shooting the same type of target, but at fifty yards and off hand ? That would make it really interesting, I think.
What do you guys and gals think ? How would that work Skipper, if you run it again next year ? Bill K :)

I'm game... I typically do most of my shooting off hand with this rifle anyway. The only benchrest shooting i do is for load development and this contest.
