Based on skippers post,

I used one of the methods to measure center to center which seems to be the norm.

I'm sure Jaxteller will chime in, however the method he states is available in the On Target application. It measures both group size and group distance from dead center of the bulls eye.

The group size is the first measurement he says to consider. The second is the farthest shot hole from center of the bulls-eye. Then add the two together for a combined score.Scoring:
Score your group in inches. Then measure distance from bulls-eye to your furthest shot. Add these two. That is your score for that target.

If you measure groups from outside to outside without deducting the caliber size then the smaller calibers will win every time the center to center measurement is exactly the same. You're going to have to measure from center to center for it to be competitive.

Thank you Jaxteller and Skipper. Center to center, it is then. Plus the total, as Jaxteller noted. Bill K

Hate to keep muddying the water here but just to be clear. On the farthest from center shot do we measure from the center of the bullet hole, the otside edge of the bullet hole opposite the bull, or the inside of that bullet hole. I am assuming the center of that bullet hole also. I will be using On target to score it and I think that uses the center

Re: Monthly Shootout: September 2017!!!
On Target measures from Center to Center so I would think Jaxteller would insist that you use the same procedure to measure the farthest shot. Center of the farthest shot to dead center of the bulls-eye. Otherwise, smaller calibers would still have an advantage.

Will do. Thanks for clearing this all up. Now all of us will be on board and doing it the same way. Bill K

Re: Monthly Shootout: September 2017!!!
yep, thanks for the clarification skipper.
BTW you nailed it on the carbon ring, with the barrel off the receiver I could see it. A good soaking with Hoppes 9 and a bronze chamber brush followed by a nylon bore brush to clean the throat seemed to do the trick. I will be heading back to the range in a day or so to play with seating depth and action screw torque later this week and am hoping for the best. I would love to see that little gun get back to regularly shooting those ragged hole 5 shot groups

Sounds like it well on its way. Those carbon rings are real group killers.

Re: Monthly Shootout: September 2017!!!
Went out and fired my 3 shot entry, for the month, with the 204R.
Group... .228
Farthest .250
Total .478
Savage Axis with 26 inch varmint contour, factory barrel bought from a site member and put on this action
T36 Weaver
Hornady brass reloaded with CFE 223, near max load under a Hornady z-max bullet.
Sand bags, from and rear over the hood of my jeep at 100 yards. Some wind, but not much, cloudy skies, temp around 65.
In the target photo you see a group on the other one inch red dot, that is the same load, but with Nosler 32 grain Lead free, need to work on that load, not bad for jacks, but sure would not work well on squeeks. Bill K
