Very good. More than likely you are going to be #1, with that group. Bill K
Re: 2017 204 Ruger Five Shot Challenge
Thank you for the kind words. Let me give a little background on my experience with this gun and the 204 in general. Last summer I was in the market for a groundhog caliber that would let me reach out a little farther than my 222 will. Up until last summer I had never heard of the 204 and after reading that it was ballistically the same as the 22-250 I was torn between the two calibers. My girlfriends dad bought a 22-250 (Savage Axis with accutriggier). I had read online, including this site, that the 204 had very little recoil and that you could see your hit/misses through the scope. Well after shooting that 22-250 and having it kick me off the scope every time I decided on the 204. I bought this Savage model 12 last August and I love it. The heavy barrel coupled with the low recoil 204 round is a joy to shoot.
I started load development this past February on an unseasonably warm day for western PA. Between reading online and talking with a few people I decided to try H4895 and 39 gr SBKs. I wasn't disappointed, attached are the results of the OCW testing. Based on the results I went with 26.2 gr of H4895 under 39 gr SBKs. After posting these results on a few forums I got asked why I stopped at 26.7 gr, after looking at Hodgdon's website and seeing the max charge for 40 gr projectiles was 27.7 gr I ran a second OCW. This one didn't go so well, after piercing two primers I decided to call it quits and just stick with 26.2 gr, and I'm glad I did.
This gun is bone stock, I'm using a Caldwell 9-13" bipod and a Mueller 8.5-25X50 scope.
I would like to thank skipper for hosting this great event. It was fun to have some friendly competition, plus it gave me an excuse to make a range visit. I can't wait to see the results, I'm sure there are some great groups out there!

Re: 2017 204 Ruger Five Shot Challenge
Well everyone, its great to see these targets, and hear that everyone had fun regardless of results. my story is a bit lackluster, i received my target in the mail and started prepping brass for the challenge when the phone rang, boss man said i need you to help me out here, i have 110 bathrooms in a new jersey hotel that need ducts installed for the exhaust fans, and when you finish that, i have 70 more in new york. i just got home yesterday and didnt get rounds loaded and downrange before nightfall despite a serious effort. i was contemplating shooting with a spotlight, but i decided against ruffling my neighbor's feathers, and just decided to take my time, load my rounds, shoot a test group, then the group on the official target and mail it back anyway. it will not knock 204nut off the top spot, but im going to try. i might not be on time, but would like to see how i fare if given adequate time behind the bench. even though i am late hopefully i can still get scored just for my peace of mind. sometimes real life and adulthood happens, as much as i want to play all day, my work is what funds me and my toys lol.

That is very unfortunate for sure, but like you said, we all need money to enjoy this hobby and it has to come from somewhere.

Well game over, now to see the listing of placement and the #1 group, although it looks like we know who that one is. But will be neat to see where all of us placed, this time. If that is not too much work for Skipper. And Skipper, Thank You very much for your time and effort to pull this off. Bill K

Re: 2017 204 Ruger Five Shot Challenge
It might be a few days before all the targets make their way back home. When I'm sure there has been adequate time for targets postdated September 1st to make it back I'll make an official announcement with member's scores. We have international competitors so we have to give time for those targets to arrive. Friday was the first and Monday is Labor Day, so waiting until Wednesday should be acceptable. I could just post the top three if there are those who don't want their scores posted??? The other option would be for me to post the top three and send the rest by PM. I feel pretty certain everyone knows their group size, but not necessarily their placement. What's your thought??

What ever works best for you Skipper is fine. I do not mind my score being shown, but if the majority just want to know privately, so be it. Bill K
Re: 2017 204 Ruger Five Shot Challenge
Target has finally arrived, better late than never. Thank you skipper for going to the trouble to post it out.

Post them all so everyone who shot can see how they placed against one another. This will also tell
how many entered.
