moa calculating

hi guys
i have a swarovski z6i scope,the windage clicks are .18 of an inch instead of .25 i know i am thick but this really makes things hard when ballistic programs work in moa.
am i missing something ?

i love the scope but unless you guys can point out something i am missing i can feel a nightforce coming on.

zx10- 1 inch of displacement or elevation change at 100 yd. is 1 moa. A click that affects a change of elevation of .25 inches at 100 yd. also affects .25 moa. Similarly a click that affects a change of elevation of .18 inches at 100 yd. affects .18 moa. If your ballistic program suggests a correction need of x moa, simply divide x by .18 to determine the number of clicks necessary.

Is .18 moa/click the spec for this scope; did you verify it on paper?

thanks pal ,after your advice i checked exbal and i can custom to .18 wind and .35 elv.might need a calculater still for long range but hey.a couple of hours working out the clicks and inputing them into my quick reference book will help..18 is written on the windage turret and .35 elv.thanks for your help redmist.

when your so used to decimal its a bit off putting.

That's a weird one. Odd that the windage is different to elevation.
But having said that - my scope does 1/8 moa, and the elevation reflects this. But windage seems to move further than expected (by almost double (1/4moa))

For yours - pretty much 1/3moa for elevation, and 1/6moa for windage

If the scope is good, then you'll get used to the new adjustments.

It's metric bullshizzle. Each click (horizontal) is one half of one centimeter (500mm) @100 meters.

That comes to 0.197" @109.361 yards. Reduce that to 100 yards and it's 0.18" per click. There's 1.047 MoA per inch @100 yards so times that by the 0.18" per click and you get 0.188461 ...call it 0.19 MoA per click per 100 yards.

You can make it easy on yourself by doing it in a spreadsheet.

When you input the yardage to the target in Cell B6, the formula in Cell D6 will tell you how many MoAs per click at that range, and Cell E6 will calculate the inches/click.

The cell addresses are relative so you can arrange the cells however suits you, but the cell address in the formulas at D6 and E6 has to match the address of the cell you're plugging your yardage into.


If you don't have Excel (part of MS-Office) on your PC, I can tell you where to get a really decent spreadsheet app, ...free.

Good explanation Fred. Since most things (at least down here) are metric nowadays anyhow, it makes sense to TRY :lol: to convert all the imperialists. But they'll have a darn hard time converting the rifle world from a system that has worked so well for so long.

thanks again for all your help chaps,some realy good info.i will give it a go and if it vexes me then try a nightforce.
