Hey guys I have two questions for you:
1. I have a Remington 700 .204 and the swing of the bolt handle swings so far up it barely clears my scope. What options do I have to give myself more clearence?
2. What range of bullets weights do you think a 1-11 twist would be able to handle?

Is it a factory bolt & bolt handle? I have a very generous clearing for all of mine.

My 700 does very well with 39 gr Sierra BKs and 40 gr Vmax.

Answers:
1. All my M700's wear Leupold's of one flavor or another, and all clear the bolt handles no problem. If it doesn't hit, what's the issue? If it does hit, and that would be rare, only a modified bolt handle or higher rings will solve the potential problem.
2. All I can offer here, is that my 11-twist 204 will shoot the 39 SBK or either the 40gr BT or V-Max very, very well. But two of my 12 twist 204's also shoot the 40's very well too (Cooper & Sako), so you'll never know until you try them in yours........

Yes it is a factory bolt and handle. It does clear with about a 1/4" of room. It does work fine just if you forget about we're you place you finger when extracting a round it's easy to pinch yourself.

Rifle bolts are not meant to be gripped like a pencil, they're designed to be lifted with the
heel of the hand and closed in the same manner (everyone was taught this in boot camp when we trained with M1903 Springfields). Your finger should never be between the bolt knob and the scope if operated properly. This is also why no military bolt knob is ever checkered (nor should they be).
It appears that 'Problem No.1' above is a non-issue........ (Try it the right way, and you'll soon see it's much more effective, and you'll never pinch that finger again.
)

I wasn't really saying it was a problem. But I do appreciate the advice!
