Hey guys, new to the forum. Have my mind made up im buying a .204. I've always been a ruger fan and have narrowed it down to the Ruger m77 hawkeye predator. I would like to know before I buy it though if this particular model will shoot Hornady 45 grain sp's accurately and just overall accuracy of the gun with any load. I have read alot of topics on the 1:12 twist barrels not liking anything over 40 grainers. Pretty much I don't want to be stuck with a gun that won't shoot a heavier bullet. Im pretty much dead set on that bullet for coyote. My second choice of guns would be the T/C Venture Predator with the 1:10 twist barrel which probably would for sure stabilize the 45's but would rather have the Ruger for the looks and to add to add to my collection. Any input will be much appreciated. Thanks

Before you commit, talk to Hornady about the twist needed to stabilize that 45 grain bullet. Most factory barrels have a 1:12 twist, and some of those don't stabilize the 40gr offerings. On the other hand, for Coyotes, the lighter HP bullets 35,37,etc could be a better choice.

Also before you jump, be aware there's a recall on the TC Venture...... :chin:

Ya I've heard about that. I would hope that the small gun shop I buy through could get me a 2012 model.

My Savage M10 Max 1 Predator with a 1x12 twist 24"BBL loves those 45gr Hornady factory loads. Just under .500 MOA at 100yds, if I do my part. No problem out to 300yds so far. Every gun is different though. Hard to say for sure untill you try them. The Ruger is a sweet rifle. But again, my main coyote load is 35gr Berger hand loads. Good Luck!!
