Hoping to rebarrel my remington varmint 204 soon and was wondering what barrel contour to get.
I quite fancy a light varmint profile but wonder if it would be less accurate than the standard varmint profile.
What do you think ?

hey i am no expert but my shots tend to be few and far between so if i re-barreled i would be tempted to go light, as i carry my rifle around quite often.after shooting a 6.5 x 55 with a light barrel that was insanely accurate i would not be afraid to go light.i am sure the more knowledgable guys on here will chip in and i will watch with interest.

Funny you should mention that about your 6.5x55 'Mike, I also have one that does the same. It has the original military barrel and it was turned down to a lighter contour. My last 3 shot group with 85 gr sierra vVarminters was 0.9" @ 300y. I didn't want it to get bigger, so I didn't go the full 5, LOL!

Generally the accuracy is there with light barrels, but waiting between shots becomes more important the lighter you go. That's the latest general philosphy, anyway... I'm not sure how "bullet proof" that statement is, and I'm nost sure I agree with it but that's the general rule anyway.
