Action/Bedding Screw(s) Torque Specs

Ruger M77 MKII .204 Ultra Light needs a good starting point for torque settings...and what tool(s) do you use to set them? Let me know your 'thoughts' and Thanks in advance.

Your owners manual should show your torque specs. My manual that came with my new Cooper are, Front action screw; 35 inch pounds, and rear action screw; 25 inch lbs. I finally purchased a screwdriver type in. lb torque wrench.

I use a Wheeler torque wrench.....it is pretty accurate. 95 inch lbs for the front bolt, trigger screws(2) 30 to 50 inch lbs. The trigger screws need to be tightened together, not one and then the other. Or do both at 5 inch pound increments until both values are met.

Page 20 in the manual has the assembly instructions without torque spec.

If you haven't taken the action out of the stock I would use a Fine Tip Sharpie and mark the screws to the bottom metal as a reference point. Usually about 35 in pounds is sufficient. Over/under tightening can change POI and open up groups. That is why w/ the reference mark on the screws and metal you know where it was before you started messin' with it. Just my lil 2cents.......

Wheeler fat wrench gets rave reveiws. I have a quarter inch drive, inch pounds snap on tourqe wrench. I found this wrench in the street when I was 10 or 11 years old, on my paper route! I never though I would use it?

Update: i went to the range and had more trouble with loose groups no matter how much or little i torqued the action. i checked the scope screws and to my surprise each would tighten a good 1/4 turn...the gun grouped down to .760". i will blue loctite them 'tight' and try again.

I wonder if there are any torque specs for scope mount screws?

My Burris PEPR QD mounts have a torque spec of 20 in-lbs. Your value might be different. Mounted the scope last night. Thought I had torqued the screws pretty tight. Bought an in-lb torque wrench today. I was very surprised on how much more they needed to be torqued. If you buy a cheaper click style torque wrench be aware that the "click" can be very subtle, so do not over tighten by reaching the click (without realizing) and continue to turn.

it took weeks to get back to the range but here is what i found...
after using blue loctite on 4 ruger scope screws and attempting to torque action at 90 front & 30 mid/rear in./lb. the gun did group better...but the scope was hitting 3" higher than before. i adjusted the nikon buckmaster to shoot 2" lower and i hit 1.5" too low. after 20 shells of dialing the gun back in i was 1/4" from the settings i started with and hitting about right...what would cause such variables in the settings for my nikon scope?
