Jewell Trigger

Post by 204hotrod »

Does any one here have any experience with the Jewell Trigger for Remmy 700-- with safety?
A couple of days ago, I was out shooting, and after firing a round, jacking in a new shell--getting a new target-- squeeze trigger and NOTHING! It was like the safety was engaged. I worked the bolt and tried again, same thing. After doing this several times, packed up and went home.
The next morning, I removed the trigger assembly from the rifle and completly disassembled it. I couldn't SEE anything wrong, so re-assembled the unit and re-installed in the rifle. Same thing-- would not release the sear. So I removed AGAIN and disassembled AGAIN. Still don't see any thing wrong. So, re-assemble all the while checking function of various parts, all seem to be doing what they are supposed to do. Re- install in rifle and again-- NO GO!!
I am thoroughly stumped now, so just get my tiny allen drivers out and start tinkering with adjusting screws and CLICK--- the sear releases! So I go back and adjust it as per Jewells instructions, and everything is working just the way it is supposed to. Went out and ran about a hundred rounds thru it today and it is again functioning the way a Jewell is supposed to. Thanks in advance for any info! Don

I haven't used one personally but I was investigating getting one for my M700. A good friend and long range shooter says Jewell triggers are great, except that the smallest bit of dirt can cause the same thing you experienced. Another buddy who empirically puts a Jewell on everyone of his guns, says the same thing, but he routinely cleans em by flushing the trigger assembly with lighter fluid. Says he's never had any problem with dirt or any other malfunction.

OK, I know that I flush with lighter fluid as per instrustions. I guess that I could have gotten a little bit of dirt in it. When I first started using the Jewell, I would flush; then blow dry with "canned air" that you use for dusting computer keyboards; but the last year or so had just been flushing. Probably I will have to go back to doing things that way again. I really like the Jewell. I have one in both my 204 and my 22-250; and have been thinking about one for my 30-06. Thanks and good shooting.
