me and a freind were talking about lever action rifles,we both own 204 bolt actions and love them,we got to talking about what we would buy in a lever action and both came to the conclusion if someone made a 204 lever itd be the lever gun wed buy,just seems like itd be a way handier lever gun then the current ones they offer now.i considered a henry golden boy 17hmr in the past but to be honest i always find my self shooting my 204 over my 17hmr varmint rigs even when the 17 would get the job done.so are we the onlys ones that would jump all over a lever gun in 204?

I do have one.A K1V Ruger in 204.For reasons unknown to me,they no longer offer the 204 in the varmint model.

Joe, I don't think that's the kind of lever action that derbyking was referring to.

Lever guns are more suited to lower pressure cartridges, not high intensity rounds like the 204 Ruger. The Browning BLR would be about the only model suitable for this round. Feeding would be a real problem, as the 204 uses pointed spitzer bullets......very dangerous in tubular magazines!

It's just not a round suited to lever action rifles. Remember too that Winchester really blew it way back in the '30's when they introduced rounds like the 218 Bee (varmint round) in lever action rifles.....it bombed (but very popular now in boltguns), as lever guns just can't hold the accuracy level a bolt gun can. And we're not talking under lever falling-block single shot rifles either like the No.1.

Correct, and the fact that it's the only lever gun made now that will handle the pressure range that high intensity cartridges are designed to work within. The old Winchester Model 88 was another, but it's been out of production for some time now. Neither used a tubular magazine like most lever rifles.

In general, lever guns just do not offer the accuracy, nor built for the pressure of the 204 Ruger.

I actually have a Browning made 1895 Winchester Carbine in 30-06 on which I mounted a Scout scope forward of the action replacing the rear sight. While 30-06 is not a high intensity cartridge, it does fairly well, and frankly much better than the .308 class cartridges. Being that it is a magazine rifle, it can use pointed bullets.

As a matter of fact, I do have it loaded with very excellent 125 grain plastic tips, which are devastating on small gamers.
