I think somebody reported that was a misprint. It really should be 1:12.

Its not a misprint. The Venture and Icon are made in 10 twist for 2010. Just be real careful you get the new 10 twist model.
If I were in the market for a new factory 204 I'd strongly consider the new 10 twist 5R rifles from Thompson.
There was a rumor Savage was introducing a 9 twist in 204. That was a misprint and I can quarentee you Savage has no intention of changing from the 12 twist anytime soon. Wish they would.

I am in the market for a new bolt gun in .204 Ruger and I am seriously considering straying from Remington and picking up a TC Venture Predator. Has anyone on here tried one of these in .204 yet? I wish it had a little bit heavier barrel, but I am thinking that the 1-10" twist combined with the 5R rifling should turn in some nice accuracy. (This will be used for pdogs 99% of the time)
I already bought brass, dies, bullets and powder... now I just need a gun!
One of the reasons I am leaning toward the TC is because I can pick up the Predator model for $404 through my work. I am also checking to see if I can get a pro-deal through Savage. If I can then I may go that route.
The one downside to the TC Venture is the little 3-round magazine. I'd either need to find extended magazines or modify a factory mag (make longer) so that I can load 5.
Cheers!

Haven't tried it,but it does come in 1:10 twist 5R, 22" fulted barrel, with a MOA garantee.Fellow on VHA fourm shoots one,and loves it(accuracy). The 3 rnd clip is not metal,so extending(WHY)it may not be possible.

My bet is finding an accurate load in one of them would be much easier than a normal 12 twist.
Just my hunch.
Of course the Icon Precision Hunter comes with a varmint weight barrel

The Precision Hunter is on my WANT list for sure, and maybe I should just save up the extra $$$ for it. I'm just not sure it is worth the price of admission. It's has everything I'm looking for though. Although, the icon .204 is 1-12" twist instead of 1-10". That is probably less than an issue than I am making it out to be. I have a .22-250 for the "heavy" stuff.
Dang it... I have to save up more money.

According to thier catalog the Icon is a 10 twist.

The 10 twist really helps the 40gn pills come alive. Find a load with decent velocity and the 22-250 can stay at home

Hmmm... your right, it does. I didn't look at the catalog. The website itself doesn't list the twist rate for the Icon in the specs, so I called TC and talked to a gunsmith who informed me that the twist on the Icon Precision Hunter in .204 was 1-12 and the Venture Predator was 1:10 (as shown on the specs for that model).
Hmmm... I'm going to call them again. I am betting that the catalog is right and both of them are 1-10". I can pick up the Icon PH for $800... which puts me in line with a few of the Savage model 12s at full retail. And I do like the option of swapping barrels that the Savage offers.

Well, looks like I can pick up a Savage 12VLP DBM for $626, or a 12FCV for $487.
As much as I wanted to try the TC Venture or the Icon... I think for the price and features I am going to go with Savage.
