I'm not gonna complain, but....

Finally got out to shoot my Rem 700 SPS. Only found one box of ammo, Hornady 32gr, so only enough to get the bulk of the break in done and get the scope in the ball park. New glass hasn't arrived yet so had an old 3-9 on it to play with. Not anxious here at all!! :D No pix of target ( my camera has decided all of a sudden that it doesn't want to work with NiMh batteries) but looks like groups are in the vicinity of 1/2". While shooting and final cleaning when I got home I saw no evidence of copper fouling at all just heavy powder fouling. Used Butch's bore shine and Hoppe's #9. Not going to complain about the lack of copper fouling but do find it more than a bit odd. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Larry

I have an SPS varmint, and I get very little copper fouling.

Can one expect 1/2" or better groups with the SPS line? Looking to buy another .204, preferably in a remington. I like the 700VLS & 700VSF but more $ than the SPS.

When I was breaking in my Sako I found a couple of factory loads that worked well initially, but once I pushed some more down the tube that changed. I think it was the Remington 32gr Ballistic that shot a bughole group that never returned. Now 39BK's and 10x are my go to's.

Actually, my worst groups from my current load measure around 1/2". From a clean barrel, the first three shots I take will go into the same hole at 100 yards. The first time I did this, a friend was spotting for me, and said "you only hit the target once, I can't see the other shots". I use Federal 205M primers, hornady brass, RE-10x (24.8), and 39 gr Sierra blitzkings (2.326" OAL).
