Is the barrel free floated? Is the crown in good shape?

I suspect the barrel isn't free-floated and they may be causing your issues.

A friend of mine had this problem with an M700 SPS in .17 fireball. He found tool marks in the end of the barrel from when they cut the crown. Remington replaced the barrel for him. This might not be your problem though. Like WP99 said, you could have some poor pressure points between your barrel and stock.

My suggestion is you send it back to Remington. My exact model had a bad crown and I was able to recrown it myself. Let them fix their own screwups.

I have owned 2 SPS's both in 17 fireball, one varmint barrel and one skinny barrel. The varmint model was a tack driver, while the one with the skinny tube needed some work to come around. None of my remington's are floated, still in factory stocks and have no problem with either going under 3/8" with thier respective favorite loads.

I have the same gun and it sends out flyers once in a while. My groups are a little better than yours but I am to unhappy with the performance. I tried the 32 grain silvers and 40 grain Vmax.

i had one in 204 and i tried everything to get it to shoot under an inch, had my gunsmith check the crown, had him free float the barrel, bedded the action etc. i tried several types of bullets, primer, powder combo's, seating depths and so on to no advail. still couldn't get it to shoot under an inch. so i went out and bought a savage model 12 lrpv and that solved the problem

Welcome to the forum.
Replaced a Remmy with a Sav. Great cognitive reasoning. I like the way you think ;) :D
