just got back from my first hunt in ohio this year with new 55 grain berger bullet in the 204. this is how it done. in two days i killed 26 groundhogs. my furthest kill was 775 yards. i got two out of the same den at that range. i missed one at 855 yards by 3 inches to the left. this bullet is going to do very well in the 204. i shot groundhogs all the way from 120 yards to 775 yards and none of them crawled away. the second day we had very bad wind to shoot in. 25 mile an hour cross wind and i still killed one at 624 yards. my biggest problem was the coefficiency of this bullet. i had to undershoot because it was shooting flatter than i had anticipated. this cartridge is a very efficient thousand yard round and hopefully i can prove that by this fall on my second hunt. my rifle is a savage model twelve single shot. it has been bedded and the trigger polished. im shooting a 28 inch lilja three groove 1 in 9 twist nozzler custom brass cci bench rest primers reloader fifteen 26.8 grains with a bushnell elite scope. this round is very accurate. until you try this combination you wont believe how flat shooting it is with very very little recoil. i can watch my hits in the scope.

I love this. Keep up with the reports. Have you checked velocity of that load?

Very cool.
What power scope?
Been thinking of trying RL-15. Ever use RL-17? I also want to try Ramshot BigGame for a slower powder with heavier bullets. My barrel is only 23", but hope to try the 50gr Berger at longer ranges soon.

I was beginning to think that everything that could be said about the 204 had already been said. Now this opens a whole new chapter.
Jamie, do you think you really need 28 inches of barrel to burn that little bit of powder?

Out of courisoity, with a OAL,of 2.260 (I believe is STD length) what is the distance to lands (or bullet jump)?
Thx,

The reason for the 28 inch barrel is to cut off and rechamer it when my barrel gets burn out and i don,t know my bullet jump

Wow, great shooting with the 55 gr bullets. I caan't wait to get a 1-9" twist barrel and try the big bullets.

Sounds very impressive! Got any pics of the rifle? Any pics of the carnage?

I need to ask... Did you have the chamber specifically cut for that length of bullet and if so, to what length....?
That combination is intriguing and with the information you provided, certainly worth pursuing...I would love to have an honest 700 yard .204...
