I love the CZ's set trigger!!!!, but the out of box accuracy is what sold me on the Savage! I love it. I can shoot 1/2" groups all day. I think the accutrigger feels pretty good also. But no matter what anyone tells you they like, you need to compare them side by side and choose which one YOU like! Weigh out the pros and cons and go for it. They are both excellent rifles!!!!! You wont be disappointed in either. -Dan

One of each sounds like the right choice. A good bore scopen would be the decision maker for me.

If you are a betting man, here is an option........:

Steelers win-------> Buy the Savage

Cardinals win------> Buy the CZ

Oh, and I am a huge Steelers fan.......so this was my way of getting to cheer for em. GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!

I have a savage 12. Shoots like like heaven, looks like heck. Looks aside, you can't beat savage for accuracy at almost any price. But I do like the CZ's varmint barrel. It is made heavy enough to do bench work, and light enough to walk with. But if you are just shooting yotes and groundhogs, a hot barrel is not an issue.

I have 8 Savage rifles, two are in 204, and have had excellent luck with them. They are the most accurate rifle, right out of the box, of all the brands I've been around. I've had other brands that were accurate too, but I had to work on them to get it. If you shoot like me, you need all the help you can get. Sometimes I wonder if I should have just took the 12 guage................. :lol:

280 Win Welcome to the forum.

I usually say Savage when these type questions are asked.
I haven't heard many/any complaints about CZ's not shooting well though.

Savage is made in the USA tho and Obama would not mind taking thier profits :huh:

I like my CZ and Savages. I went with another Savage (11BTH) in 204 and could not be happier. I had 3 shots touching each other with less than 20 rounds through it at 100 yards while breaking it in. It shoots 1 1/3 inches at 200 yards with the same load as my Savage 12VLP, same accuracy. The CZ trigger is very nice, a little better than the Savage in my opinion. I would go with the varmint barrel in the CZ if you go that way. The thin barrel of the American heats up very quickly. Go with the one that feels the best to you and go make something red :lurk:

Tough choice. I haven't heard to many bad things about either one. I own a CZ-American and while it needed bedding & free floating, once that was done it shoots .3moa all day long. The down side to CZ's (only if you see them as such) is;

- Protruding magazine; Mr Calhon in Montana has a fix for this though.
- The safety operation is completly opposite of US manufactured rifles.

One thing I would look at though is in what manner would you be using it; from a bench or walking around with it. The light barrels do heat up very quickly but are great when your in the carry mode. The heavy barrels (I'm referring to my Remington 700 Thumbhole model) won't heat as fast but are a tad heavy when having to tote it around. The CZ-527 Varmint version is a good compromise and works well when both carrying and from the bench.

My only experience with Savage is with two 17HMR's. One shot good right out of the box (Thumb Hole model), the other needed a trigger, bedding and a new crown. I was looking at the Savage Laminate Stock Thumb Hole model when I came across the Remington for quite a bit less.

In the end, both Savage & CZ's make good products. It may just come down to whch finish you prefer.

Between the model 16 and the 527 Varmint I would go with the 527. If you were looking for strictly a carry rifle i would suggest the 527 American. If your interest was bench i would suggest a Savage model 12. The 527 Varmint falls nicely in between, it carrys well and performs well off a bench also. I am a little partial to the trigger settings on the 527. Either choice has very good odds of being accurate.

You could save some money and get the mod.16. It has the stainless barrel and is quite weather resistant. just wrap some camo tape around the barrel when pred. hunting.

I have the Savage 16. After sending it back to the factory for a keyholing issue (they put a new barrel on it) it shoots just OK. Wish I bought the CZ or a Cooper. :mad:
