Have looked at several models including Sako 85 varminter,Remington B&C,HS precision too expensive by the way. If you have any ideas on other ultimate 243 rifles please leave info here. Kind of leaning towards the Sako even though its a little heavy.

Looked at a Savage? They're only ugly until you see the target

I'll take accuracy and versatility over pretty anyday.
I like my guns to shoot not keep me warm at night

Take a look at the CZ line. These little rifles are starting to impress me. I think I'm going to have one as a carry rifle

If it was me I would just build the rifle I wanted with all the parts that I like.

I'm only buying one gun in 2009 also (maybe, no promises)
Its a 6ppc with a Stiller Viper drop port action in a MCM edge stock.
The Stiller Viper is not usually considered pretty. It does its job just as well if not better than most.
RIO
Life might be shorter yet if you hunt for food and your pretty rifle can't shoot.
Hope your feeling better soon-Joe

Jo: I am having a custom .204 built at this time using a Stiller Viper action, Shilen barrel and McMillan Hunter Class stock - that Viper looks pretty to me, online anyway!
I have wanted to build a custom for a long time and when the .204 came along, I knew that it would be the caliber for my build! I also had a reamer built off Rick's pattern - should have the gun in a few months. I hate the wait!

calling another mans gun ugly is as bad as saying the same about his wife or worse his dog

Don't worry Orion. Your gun will be both beautiful and sexy.
We'll need to see pics here at the 204M.
chip, Folks have been calling Savages ugly for years. I'll admit they're not the prettiest of guns. Mount a nice scope on em and they tend to perk up. Sort of like brushing and putting a new collar on an old matted dog. Funny tho, I could care less what my dog looks like as long as he behaves and does'nt drool all over the house. I don't care for droolers.
I prefer my women to be attractive and no drooling there either.

Here we go again
... I'm not sure if I EVER saw an ugly rifle. Some just have more character than others..Sako 85 is a nice rifle,"but" if you don't get one with nice wood, it's just as ugly as a Savage. If your too good for a Savage, Get a Sako..Me, I want one of every make and model out there!!! You guys quack me up.

chip-don: Perhaps you should re-read my post. I never called anyone's rifle ugly, just made a statement, and never even mentioned a brand of rifle.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
But while we're at it, there
ARE ugly rifles. When in Viet Nam, I walked past piles of plain ugly rifles (subjective on my part, but I'm writing this) confiscated from the enemy and piled up for burning or destruction. They were mostly SKS's and Mosin Negants....pure ugly, at least to me. But no one would argue that they
work. But then again, I'd never want to hunt with one of them.
jo191145: Call me silly, but I want my rifles to both look good,
and be accurate. I
have had to hunt for food (long time ago in Canada), and even though my rifle then would be ugly to me today by my standards, I had it as pretty as I could make it, considering it was an old WWI SMLE .303 British. But like the SKS's mentioned above, it
worked. Now I'll just remind you of what I originally posted.....
Life is too short to hunt with an ugly rifle.
I'm not trying to be mean or derogatory in any way, or demean any particular brand of rifle. Most here know I have my preferences, as all of us do. I just like function, accuracy,
and good looks all wrapped up in the package, and my rifles reflect these traits. The one great thing about the USA, is we all have choices when it comes to such things. This thread has strayed quite a bit, so I'll just add: thanks for the well wishes, and "is it spring yet?"

No one suggested a Cooper?? And before the thread derails, I'm aware of the deal with Dan Cooper and Obama...
In my opinion, you can't buy a better combination of accuracy and aesthetics than a Cooper for under $2k. Now that there's a repeater in the lineup, you have all of the flexibility that you should need in picking out your ultimate .243!
