I just came from a rather large gun shop and was handling a used 527 American. It had a very nicely figured wood stock. The gun looked absolutely new and had a $450 price tag. I almost picked it up but I'm kind of waiting to see if the M1 527 will be offered in 204 this year. As I worked the action I was noticing the bolt position. Looked to me that there could be a scope clearance problem. I don't like high rings and was told this was a non issue. No problem. Now I see there's someone who posted down the line that has clearance problem. What's the deal here? BTW it was a nice light handling little gun and I didn't mind the mag hanging way out the bottom too bad. Dave

I have two 527s, one has a KT-15 Weaver scope on it, no problems whatsoever, the other has a Simmons 44Mag on it, and you can't work the bolt if the lens covers are on the scope, take them off, and it's fine. That's using CZ's factory rings. Lower rings can cause issues, though, or scopes with a huge ocular lens.
You can, if you choose to, take off the bolt handle (they are removeable) and grind down the offending appendage on the bolt handle, and reblue it, like Calhoon does, and that'll cure some of the problems. The real solution, IMHO, is to be choosy with scope choice, and use something like the Weaver V-16, with good optics, not too bulky, and with a small ocular lens, OR, of course, most Leupolds have small ocular lenses.
