Bluing Salts

Post by PhxRugerShooter »

I have a ruger #1 that is leaching bluing salts out of seam where the barrel screws into the receiver. I have put about 350 rounds through the rifle and it is still happening. Every time I take it out it has made some new "barrel boogers"
Has anybody else had this happen with a rifle?

According to Sweeney's riflesmithing book this is common, not harmful, and will stop of its own accord. That said, I have no personal experience with this happening.
