I have heard of people having good luck with Federal ammo loaded with the 39gr sierra.

My Tikka spit the 40 grain Horandy's out in a way that made me think there was a problem with my gun.
I switched to the 39 grain Sierra and never looked back. I ordered a case from my dealer, a case of the Sierra's, they worked that much better.

My Remington shoots the 39 grainers like gangbusters! I have only run a few boxes of 40 grainers thru her and they sure put a hurt on skippy but I never checked them for less than minute of squirrel accuracy. Gary

ulshooter,

I have one rifle that shoots 39's well and hates the 40's and another rifle that shoots both weights very well. I don't think you can pre-judge. Test both at least 4 or 5 groups and that should give you a pretty good indication if your rifle shoots 39's better than 40's.
40 grain Hornady's are generally less expensive and they produce spectacular damage when they hit a prairie dog.
