A friend of mine has been converted to .204 from my constant talking about it, however he
is a lefty. He likes heavy barrels however it still needs to be used off the shoulder.
A cz 527 varmint would be perfect but they don't come left hand
He has a thing for remingtons also.
Any input would be great, cheers

The only thing that comes to mind in a heavy barrel left hand would be the savage 12fv or vlp. Both will be a bit heavy though. I have the VLP and with a scope she's pretty hefty. I think the rifle alone weighs about 10 pounds. Your only other bet would be to get the cz 527 american and settle for a sporter barrel. I think remington is making their sps varmint in a left hand version now also, not sure on the weight for that one, but it should be less than the savage. Anyway there are a few options out there. I think if I were buying one and I was looking for a light weight 204 I would go with the cz 527 left hand. Just my 2 cents. Good luck to your friend.

Thanks mate, I think I have him convinced on the cz527 and if he doesn't like the light barrel he'll
put a maddco heavy contour on it and get a hs stock.

The Tikka Stainless Varminter will be available in lefthand 204. See tikka.fi. However, I do not know how soon it may be available in the US, if at all. It is a medium weight varminter, with about 8.5 lb. weight, 23 3/8 inch barrel, and synthetic stock. I want to get one for myself.

I just checked the website on the weight of the Tikka Varmint Stainless and it is only 6 lbs., 10 oz. So it would definitely qualify as a "light varminter". I had the Savage in 204 and it was about 10 lbs. or so. The CZ 527 American is about six or six and a half lbs.

I believe that my savage 12fv weighs in at about 8 pounds naked. That's why I went with it over a wood stocked version. But in retrospect, I sometimes wish I would've went with a lighter barrel contour. I've thought about having my gunsmith chuck up the barrel and reduce the muzzle and taper it back to about the end of the fore end. Just my thoughts.

The Tikka would be fine apart from the fact he doesn't like them for what ever reason...
The T3 Varmint S/S is actually 7.9lbs
The CZ527 American is 6.17lbs
Fair difference there.

I like the CZ 527, and would consider getting one. The price is very reasonable, accuracy reputation is good, walnut stock is nice, mini mauser action is good, single set trigger is nic. Some do not like the appearance of the magazine hanging down, but that does not bother me. I believe that you can have an aftermarket conversion to the magazine to make it a flush mount.

Cooper would also be a lefthand option, for somewhat more money. Also, it would be a singleshot. A friend has one of the Varminters in 204 and it is only about 7.5 lbs, and deadly accurate. Very high quality.
