Runout

I have a Savage model 12 VLP in 204 Ruger and I have struggled for a while with moderate and sporatic accuracy. At first I thought that it was my cleaning method, but I started checking my loads and cases and found that fired cases have about 0.002" of runout. I assume that the barrel was not reamed correctly and plan to contact Savage, but this is going to press me to be ready to use the gun for prarie dogs in May. I also have a Rem 700 with Hart barrell that has approximately zero runout. Suggestions.
