204 Ruger in the AR platform

Post by Target Tommy »

Any one shoot one of these? I shoot a 204 Ruger but in a Target Grey Ruger.Going to the range tomorrow with many different loads and powders. The search now begins for the best load. That is the part I really enjoy, the constant(hopefully) improvement of the loads. :)

I've had one for a couple of years. Mine was custom built by a gunsmith in CA, with a 22" Douglas XX Match SS, free floated barrel. The chamber was cut just a little shorter than factory norms and it is really accurate with the right load.

The paint is a little loud, but PDs don't care what shoots them.. :P

Target Tommy, in what part of Central FL do you live? I lived for a couple of years at Titusville and used to shoot at the T'ville Rifle & Pistol Club and once in a while at the one on the SE side of Orlando..

I just built one a couple of months ago using the DPMS .204 barrel from Brownells. If it is anything like the other AR's I have built it should be rather accurate. I haven't been able to shoot it since I have been away on Army business, but I intend to change that very soon. I just ordered a barrel for another AR build in .20 Tactical. I am really looking forward to that build, I have read nothing but good things about .20 Tactical.

OT,

Do not usually like flashy paint jobs but I must say that I'm digging that one...

Very nice and well done...

Here's mine. It's a DPMS with an essential(sp?) arms lower and a Timney trigger.

Here's a group it shot. I have only shot 1 other group with this load, but both are in the low threes.

Just purchased my first after watching what Verminator2 was doing with his. (OK, there might have been a little jealousy going on.)

It's a lightly used BushMaster lower, Chip McCormick single stage trigger, Magpul PRS stock, Zeiss 6.5-20x and a White Oak upper in .204, of course. The first group out of it working up a load was .445 in. @ 100 yrds. :D It's pretty heavy for coyotes but it's gonna' be great for rockchucks and squirrels next Spring. And the beauty of the AR is that I can put a lighter weight upper on it with a lower power scope for calling when The Bank (read "wife") allows. I see now how people get affected by this BRD.

So far, I'm impressed.

I have a .204 Ruger Target Grey that I bought from one of the forum members and the load it likes is 27.7 grs. of H 4895 behind 39 SBK. They chronoed about 3800 mv. OAL of 2.3

Hey Tommy, Will that range allow out of state people to shoot there? I have a timeshare on the beach there and when I get tired of watching the people on the beach I might want to shoot a few rounds.
