Hello All,

I am new to this site and I am wondering if anyone has extended their chamber so you can seat the bullet in the neck of the case. I have read about this in the book from Todd Kinder and was wondering if anybody has done this. I have a CZ 527 Varmit and I know it will make it a single shot by extending it but would be willing to sacrifice using he clip for improved accuracy. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Have you checked your barrel to see how far out you can seat the bullet? Factory .204 barrels typically have such a long throat that you may be able to do it already...

Not sure what you mean by "extending the chamber". That would make the already significant freebore even longer. By chance do you mean shorten up the chamber so you can reach the lands with the bullet fully seated in the neck as TK designed his 204R Match reamer?

If that's what you're referring to, then "yes" it can be done. I had PTG grind me my own version of Todd's match reamer to give .015" freebore vs. .125" from the factory chambering. I also tightened up all other dimensions to give a true "no-turn" neck match chamber where the bullet is fully supported in the neck, and the ogive of the bullet is able to touch the lands. It worked most excellently.



Caveat: If you go this route, you will no longer be able to shoot factory ammunition in that rifle, so know this going in if you're not a handloader.

That is exactly what I meant. I am sorry I did not communicate it correctly. So basically what you are saying is that I need to have my smith cutoff the barrel and ream it with the modified reamer you show above correct. Please let me know what a reamer like that cost. Also I only shoot hand loads so that is not a problem.

The cost of that reamer in 2008 ran right around $130. But if you have one ground from an existing drawing it may be less expensive, and Dave at PTG has more than a few 204R reamer prints on file, including mine. You may find that info on their website.

Best to just call with specific questions and sort it out prior to ordering. Also consider chamber neck dimensions....mic a loaded case using the brass you intend to use, and give that dimension to PTG. If this is your first semi-custom road trip, have the folks at PTG decide on chamber neck clearance on the reamer. You don't want to be neck turning brass this early in the game.

thanks alot I will give them a call. Yes I already neck turn 223 brass for the 20 vt and I am not a big fan of doing it.
