one: H4198 is better suited to the 221FB and other small cases. I use it in my 20 Vartarg and 221 Fireball, along with my 17 Mach IV. But I do have a great load using H4895 with the 40gr Nosler and the 40gr V-Max, which is much more suited to the 204R case in regard to burn rate.
Nosler does list IMR 4198 with the 32 grain bullet with 23.0grs being max for 4,060 fps, but nothing using the 40gr bullet with that powder (Nosler No.7 Manual).
PM me if you'd like the H4895/40gr load.

I tried a few different powders when using 40gr Vmax in my 204R. I never tried H4198, as I do completely agree with what RIO stated. The only powder I could get a group of less than 3/4in moa when using the 40 Vmax was with H4895. With some work I did get some groups right at 1/2in moa. This load is my back-up load for my 204. All groups are 5 shot groups at 100 yards. HTH

Thanks for the quick reply fellas. I was asking beacuse I just picked up a 1-9" 20" 204 ruger barrel and got my rifle built. I am stationed in Kodiak AK and being an island it is hard to find powder for small caliber rifles. It seems like everyone here is a doomsday prepper and as soon as varget, benchmark, h335... hits the shelf it is sold out. It is about $40 for the hazmat fee to ship powder here, so im in a bit of a pickle for getting my hands on reloading components. small rifle primers might as well be made of gold, thankfully I have a few thousand stashed. H4198 is the best choice of the powder that I have. I may just have to bite the bullet and buy a 8# jug online and pay the hazmat fee and hope it is the right powder. Man I miss being on the mainland.
