What is the best way to achive fastest speed with .204?

Thanks for the history lesson BCB. You are a valuable source of information for sure. I fall in the catagory of recent 20cal fans(5 years), but I forgot about reaching "top velocity" and fell in love with overall performance at 3900fps for the 39gr bullets. Beats a 220Swift and doesn't foul or heat up the barrel near as fast. Perfect prairie dog cartridge.

Got the twist rate figured out. One is better with a 1 to 10 for the .204 Ruger. A higher twist rate will improve trajectory in a windy situation, especially went the wind drops. One could possible go 1 to 9 for that reason

Another fact is the higher the speed at the muzzle the faster the speed will drop at 100yd, 200yd and more. This was explained by a physicist.

I did found out that a longer barrel in a .204 ruger configuration, around ?? inches. Will not increase speed. As a matter of fact the longuer the barrel the more the bullet speed will drop inside the barrel. This occur in other calibers like the short magnum. The case opening for the power to push the bullet is to small.

The twist rate is establish by the bullet makers. I am not going to argue with them. But in the real world, hunting or target shooting is not always done indoors. Where the wind is almost non existant.

Ruger use to make 26in barrels. Now they offer only one, the target model in 26in(last) the rest is in 24in.
